Delete Your Expense Hunter Account

Important: Deleting your account is permanent and cannot be undone. Please make sure you have exported any data you wish to keep before proceeding.

How to Delete Your Account

To delete your Expense Hunter account, please follow these steps:

  1. Log into the Expense Hunter app
  2. Navigate to Settings
  3. Go to Account Settings
  4. Select Delete Account
  5. Follow the confirmation prompts to permanently delete your account

Once you confirm the deletion, the process will begin immediately and cannot be reversed.

Data Retention and Deletion Policy

Account Deletion and Personal Data

When you request to delete your Expense Hunter account, we initiate a process to permanently delete or anonymize all personal data that is exclusively yours and not shared with other users. This process is typically completed within 90 days.

Data That Will Be DELETED

The following types of data are permanently removed from our systems:

  • Account and Identity Information: Your unique user ID, username, email address, and hashed password.
  • Personal, Non-Shared Data: Any financial data, ledgers, categories, tags, and transactions that you created and did not share with other users.

Data That Will Be RETAINED (or anonymized)

The following types of data are kept for specific purposes:

  • Data in Shared Resources: Any data you contributed to a shared resource (e.g., a transaction in a shared ledger) is not deleted. Your personal association with the data is removed (anonymized), but the transaction details remain visible to the other members of the shared resource to maintain their records.
  • Feedback and Communications Data: The content of your feedback or support requests is anonymized. We remove your user ID and any other personal identifiers from the communication, but we retain the anonymized message content to help us track issues and improve our service.
  • Anonymized Usage Data: Aggregated and anonymized data about service usage may be kept for statistical analysis and service improvement. This data cannot be linked back to you.
  • Technical Log Data: For security and debugging, we may retain technical logs (like IP addresses) for a limited period, typically up to 180 days, after which they are deleted.
  • Data Required by Law: We retain data necessary to comply with legal or tax obligations (e.g., for up to 7 years in Austria), if applicable. This does not include your personal expense-tracking data.

Before You Delete Your Account

Please consider the following before deleting your account:

  • Export any important financial data you want to keep
  • Inform any collaborators in shared ledgers that you will be leaving
  • Resolve any pending transactions or shared expenses
  • Cancel any recurring transactions or reminders
